Gates The Comic by Hal Hefner, Presented by Heavy Metal

As many of you have noticed, Gates is a dark sci-fi comic, with a very serious theme. Obviously I love creating dark sci-fi because that’s just me. But I enjoy watching and reading all types of science fiction. And as fate has been doing to me so far in 2011, it carried me right into the lap of one sexy cyber-enhanced supersoldier that was a nice change of pace from my own work–Gates.

The Arizona Comic Con was an awesome place to mingle with other creators. Yes the focus to the con was comics but there were some really cool comic related companies there that brought more to the table than comics themselves. ENTER: VEXIKA

Vexika is a futuristic SciFi reality web series,  created by a husband and wife team named Dan and Miranda Stewart. While looking for a fun and creative way to keep their marriage passionate and adventurous while pushing the limits of what a close working couple can accomplish on the weekends, without killing each other–they created VEXIKA!

Vexika™ follows Victoria Bloom, an ambitious Channel 4 TV reporter who is secretly an experimental nanoid-hybrid biological cyber-enhanced supersoldier who loves playing games on her console, and is secretly engaged to her cameraman. Her only mission is to hunt down the deranged and failed rejects of the project every month to feed her fatal nanoid adrenaline build up.

Rarely is there a web series that fits so well in comic book culture. Vexika is super fun sci-fi, starring a hot chick and loaded with action. Vexika has been covered on Attack of the Show and they have over 12,000 fans on Facebook . And I got to spend the weekend with Dan and Miranda and they are awesome! Our booth was right next to theirs at the Amazing Arizona Comic Con and we had a great time chatting and talking about their project and of course Gates.

They are just two really great people, loving life and having fun. They don’t take life too seriously, they just enjoy dressing up, making movies on the weekends and having a good time! If you notice on the site, Dan likes to poke fun at his acting but there is no denying that Miranda is awful sexy in that skin tight suit.  To me they capture the fun of a 1970′s style comic book, slap in a Nintendo game background feel and combine it with some USA Up All Night dialogue and you’ve got one fun series that is really quite easy to enjoy.

I really see big things ahead for them and are glad to cal Dan and Miranda my new friends. So stay tuned because I will definitely be keeping an eye on these two and can’t wait to watch Vexika throttle some more clones.
